The iA Group organized a by-invitation-only Big Data Analytics in the Public Sector forum on 20 Aug 2014 at the Shangri-la Putrajaya. More than 50 people, with the majority from the public sector, attended this event that kicked off with a keynote address by iA’s Managing Director, Datuk Dr. Hamzah Kassim.

Amish Patel from IBM Software Group, USA, was next, speaking about evolving the public sector to Big Data Analytics. He provided insights into the key challenges public sector organizations face these days in turning their information assets into insights, and insights into better public service, reduction of cost and a revenue generator.

Then came Amit Shanker of Tech Mahindra who addressed the audience on education & infectious disease forecasting, describing case studies on performance management in schools and enhancing overall public healthcare performance through analytics.

The last presenter is a Research Fellow of UKM. Professor Layth Sliman talked about Big Data, Analytics and Decision Making: Current and Future Trends In The European Countries, providing an overview of Big Data Analytics’ current and future trends in the European countries.

To cap it all off, all three speakers formed a discussion panel with Datuk Dr. Hamzah Kassim as moderator. It was a spirited discussion – with plenty of questions from the floor – centered around the national BDA agenda:

- Where are the critical gaps in training and skills?
- What are some opportunities for Big Data in healthcare, education and social analytics?
- What is the business value behind Big Data?
- What questions can Big Data help us solve?
